Spring is a busy time for many of us. Our to-do lists are miles long, making it difficult to turn off our minds once our heads hit the pillow. If your hectic schedule is affecting your sleep, holistic pharmacist Sherry Torkos says Suntheanine may help. The award-winning health author told Minneapolis’ 4 News This Morning viewers that this amino acid can help you feel calmer, so you can better settle into a good night’s sleep.
Spring cleaning, yard work, end-of-school-year events and a busy work schedule can leave you feeling stressed and out of control. “We are wound up and having a difficult time getting a good night’s sleep,” said Torkos. Her solution is to consider Suntheanine. “This is an amino acid that’s clinically studied. It makes you feel more calm and more relaxed,” she said. “It also helps to take the edge off the stress.” Sleep issues, such as insomnia, are often caused by stress and anxiety.
Suntheanine is available as a supplement in capsules, as well as chewables, “which is great for children eight and above and adolescents,” explained Torkos. “It’s non-addictive and doesn’t give you that next-day drowsiness. So think about this to help keep your stress levels at bay. It helps you feel more calm and relaxed, and improves your sleep quality.”
Middle-aged adults aren’t the only ones who experience stress-related sleep problems. The American Psychological Association reports that nearly one-third of the Millennial generation – those born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s – attribute lack of sleep to thinking about all the things they need to do, or did not get done. Generation Xers – those with birth dates ranging from the early 1960s to the early 1980s – report sleeping the fewest hours. Millennials report poorer sleep habits than other adults.
Research has shown that taking a Suntheanine – a patented pure form of L-theanine – before bed results in an improvement in sleep quality.
