It’s not unusual to struggle with sleep issues. The Centers for Disease Control called insufficient sleep a public health epidemic. Torkos suggested melatonin for people working shift work or having difficulty adjusting to time zones. “It’s a great natural remedy to help reset your sleep cycle,” she said. Clinical studies have indicated that Suntheanine, a patented pure form of the amino acid L-theanine, may also help improve sleep quality.
Anxiety and a racing mind may cause sleep issues as well as difficulty concentrating or accomplishing tasks. “Suntheanine is for people who are struggling with stress and looking for a natural way to calm down and have greater focus,” said Torkos. Researchers have discovered that L-theanine helps people with anxiety better focus on their activities. In this study, university students were given 200 mg of Suntheanine and evaluated 15 to 60 minutes after consumption with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Brain and heart activity were also monitored throughout the trial. The double-blind study revealed that Suntheanine had a “pronounced effect on attention performance and reaction time response in normal healthy subjects prone to have high anxiety.”
Suntheanine works by increasing the brain’s alpha wave activity. These weak electrical impulses are known to promote a relaxed, yet alert state.
